Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson Both lawyers. At five years old she relocated to Oxfordshire, where she attended Dragon School. Emma knew she wanted to be an actor from when she was six years old. She was trained for several years at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. This part-time theatre school taught her singing, dancing, and acting. She was a stagecoach actress and played the lead in several Stagecoach productions. In 1999 casting started for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001), the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was found by her Oxford theatre instructor who introduced casting representatives to Emma. After eight continuous auditions David Heyman informed Emma and Rupert Grint that they were chosen to play Hermione Granger and Harry Potter. Emma's debut screen performance in cinema was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001). The film broke records for opening-day ticket sales and opening week-end takers and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Film critics praised the film as well as the performances of three young actors who were the most prominent. The Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper with a huge circulation, called her performance "admirable". Then, Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in the film. She also won the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film. After the debut film in the highly successful series, Emma became one of the most famous actresses in the world. In the ten years that followed she was the role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone 2001, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 2002, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 2004 and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 2005. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 2007 and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 2009, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011). Emma has been nominated twice for Critics Choice Awards from the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
